Chiropractors

A chiropractor ('chiro') is a registered allied health provider who treats a wide range of muscle and bone conditions including low back pain, headaches and neck pain using hands-on techniques such as chiropractic manipulation and adjustments.

FAQs

You don’t need a referral to see a chiro, but a GP can help you with a recommendation.

If you are a Bupa member, you can find a chiro by using our Find a provider tool. For most chiro consultations with Members First providers, you may get more money back.*

To find a Member’s First chiro near you:

Bupa is not associated with or sponsored by APA.

Chiros may help you with spinal problems such as lower back and neck pain and look at how your spine may affect your body as a whole.

Your chiro may help you with range of musculoskeletal issues, including:

  • back and neck pain
  • headaches
  • ligament sprains and muscle strains
  • joint stiffness.

Your chiropractor may also provide advice on exercise, ergonomics (such as your workstation setup), wellness and healthy lifestyle changes.

Your chiropractor will assess your spine position, muscle strength and reflexes and come up with a treatment plan.

Your treatment may involve a variety of hands-on techniques such as adjustments and soft tissue treatments and provide you with exercises to help with joint mobility.

You may be covered for chiro treatment if you have eligible extras cover that includes physiotherapy. The gap (what you pay out-of-pocket) will depend on your cover and your physio’s fees.

For most physio consultations with Members First providers, you may get more money back.*

Generally, chiropractic care is not covered under Medicare. But, you could be eligible for a Medicare rebate with a relevant GP referral. If you have a chronic condition, your GP may refer you under a plan, such as a GP Management Plan (GPMP) or Team Care Arrangement (TCA).
