- You’re seeking a specific type of treatment (e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy or CBT).
- Some practitioners offer both in-person and virtual therapy.

How to access sessions
Self-referral
Search online directories to find practitioners in your area and contact them for an appointment. You can make a booking without a GP referral, but won’t receive any Medicare rebates.
General practitioner (GP)
Visit your doctor to set up a Mental Health Care Plan for treatment with a clinician. You’ll need a formal referral from a GP to claim any Medicare rebates for private sessions.
